WSA Single Lifts, Llanelli YMCA, 25/11/2007

Report by Ken Williams, Secretary of the WSA

Dean Bolt bench pressing

Just 12 lifters turned up for this, the final competition to be held at the YMCA in Llanelli as the building is being sold.

SQUAT
No lifters attempted the squat today as a single lift.

BENCH PRESS
In the 67.5 class, newcommer 19 year old Jonathan Woodall benched a nice 125 unequipped followed by another newcomer, 19 year old Ben Adrian who pressed 107.5 in the 82.5 class. In the 90 class, Rob Anderson strongly pressed 162.5 and just missed 167.5. We had two lifters in the 125 class with another newcommer Gavin Kerr, under 23, pushing a new Welsh Record of 165 and just missing 180. Master lifter Neville Joseph got three lifts and 195. There were also two lifters in the 125+ class with Dean Bolt pushing his usual easy 200 raw and master lifter Paul Allen just missing 200 and ending on 180.

DEADLIFT
Our one lady lifter of the day again impressed us all with a strong and easy pull of 180 in the 90 class. Nice to see James Griffiths again on the platform and pulling a strong 255 in the 100 class. Richie Allen pulled a great 267.5 in the 125 class to get one up on his training partner, Big Rob. Gavin Kerr pulled a strong and easy Welsh Record of 220 with loads more to come.

TOTAL
James Reardon was the only lifter attempting a total today and he lifted really well for a fine total of 610 with loads more to come.

Thanks to all officials, loaders, lifters and spectators for making this an enjoyable day. It was nice to see some new faces on the platform.

The next competiton will be the WSA Welsh Cup in February.
