2008 WSA Welsh Cup, Four Seasons, Llansamlet, Swansea 17/02/2008

Full Powerlifting Competition
19 Lifters took to the platform for a great days lifting at the 4 Seasons, Llansamlet. To start off the day in the 75 class, 15 year old Owen Hubbard lifted well for a 380 total in his first comp but just ahead with a 445 totalwas Adam Jones, back on the platform after a year out.

In the 82.5 class was Dave Todd looking good with a comfy 605 followed by a fast improving Gareth Felton on 567.5. Completing the 82.5 class was 15 year old Morgan Andrews with 400 and looking good for the future.

On his own in the 90 class was Josh Keys, again improving with a 430 total at 16 years of age. Lifting well in the 100 class, Will Tinkler totalled 587.5 despite not training for 2 weeks.

In the 110 class, another new lifter Rhys Evans at 18 years with a strong 530 total. In the 125 class, Richie Allen qualified for the British UInequipped with a 630 Total and Rob Thomas qualified for the British Seniors in the 125+ class with the biggest lift of the day and a total of 875kgs.

Bench Press Only Competition
In the 60kg class, our one and only female lifter, Clare Strawbridge did well in her first comp with a very easy 50kg.

We had three lifters in the 90 class with the honours going to Mark Ritchie with 155 followed by Kyle Ritchie with a tidt 150. Chris Donoghue in 3rd spot had an off day with 130. In the 100 class, Pgil Evans lifted 160 and in the 110 class, master lifter Colin Payne did an easy 150.

On his own in the 125 class, Andrew Stone pressed 160 in his first comp and in the 125+ class, Rob Thomas again impressed all with a massive 270 bench, followed by another new face in 18 year old Ryan Cullen with a great 170.

Thanks to all officials, loaders, lifters and spectators for making this an enjoyable day and like the last competition, it was nice to see some new faces on the platform.

The next competiton will be the WSA Welsh Powerlifting Championships on 11th May 2008.
