Welsh lifters win medals at BWLA British Seniors

Four lifters represented Wales at this year's BWLA British Senior Powerlifting Championships that were held in Birmingham on the weekend of 28th and 29th June 2008.

The first lifter out was Phil Richard of Swansea in the 75kg class. Phil's lifts were a 300kg squat, 200kg bench press and a 247.5kg deadlift for a 747.5kg total to take first place.

Next up was Louise Watton, a student of Cardiff University lifting in her first seniors championships. Louise managed to place second with a 132.5kg squat, a 72.5kg bench press and a 155kg deadlift for a 357.5kg total in the 67.5kg weight class.

Louise was followed by fellow Cardiff University student, Rachel Cork who was also competing in her first seniors championships. Rachel's lifted a 142.5kg squat, an 80kg bench press and a 162.5kg deadlift, giving her a 385kg total and second place in the 82.5kg weight class.

The final lifter to represent Wales was Phil Watkins, formerly of Merthyr Tydfil but now working as a University Lecturer in Derby. Phil, who is also known as Wing Commander Watkins due to his frequent "bombing" at competitions had a very good day and ended in second place with a 295kg squat, a 175kg bench press and a 300kg deadlift giving him a total of 770kgs.
