2008 WSA Welsh Counties Powerlifting & Bench Press Championships
18 lifters took to the platform today and it was nice to see many new lifters having a go.
Bench press only competition
7 lifters competed in the bench press, with 16yr old Morgan Andrews benching well for 115kg in the 82.5kg class.
In the 90kg class, Jack John at 18 did an easy 110kg. A good contest in the 110kg class with David Hughes age 20 pushing
a great 170kg and just behind with 155kg was 19 yr old Andrew riddford.
Unfortunately Peter Edwards, Dax Dyer and Ryan Cullen all bombed this time but it looks like the future of benching in Wales
is looking good with all the new lifters coming through.
Powerlifting competition
In the powerlifting section we had 11 lifters competing, three lifters in the 82.5kg class, with Chris Ford having the biggest
total of 435kg, followed by 16 yr old Tim Keane with 360kg and Daniel Watkins at 13 yrs old the youngest lifter of
the day with a great 265. Five lifters in the 90kg class with Glyn Felton improving with a well earned 585kg,
closely followed by Rhys Smith with a tidy 580kg. Next up was master lifter Geraint Nicholas lifting unequipped for
a great 535kg, followed by the improving 16 year old Josh Keys with 505kg. Lee Hough unfortunately bombed on this occasion
but he will get it right next time. On his own in the 100kg class, Luke Davies at 19 impressed with 550kg total.
In the 125+ class master lifter Bob Sadler did well for a 670kg total while Dax Dyer unfortunately bombed at the bench stage.
