2007 Welsh Powerlifting Team

The Welsh Powerlifting Union (WPU) was formed in 1997 by Ken Williams and Phil Richard and is affiliated to the British Weightlifers Association (BWLA) as BWLA had no existing Welsh region. BWLA in turn is affiliated to the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) so this means that members of the WPU can qualify for and compete in National competitions within BWLA and international competitions organised by the IPF.

Members of the WPU can also be selected to represent Wales in the 4 Nations Powerlifting Championships (Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland) and in the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships.

The WPU conforms to the strict anti-doping procedures put in place by UK Sport so if you do not agree with drug testing then please take a look at one of the non-tested federations instead.

All the WPU's competitions are run by the WSA so please take a quick look at their mini-site for information on any forthcoming competitions.
