Important information regarding the WPU and the GBPF

For those of you who are not aware there has been a slight change to the set up outside of Wales. The association was previously affiliated to BWLA. However in the last few years there have been numerous problems and differences between the two sides Powerlifting and Weightlifting. The result is that powerlifting has now decided to go on its own and form the Great Britain Powerlifting Federation (G.B.P.F). The new federation will now take over and run powerlifting affairs in Great Britain, this federation now holds the affiliation to the IPF/EPF. As far as things go the main thing you will need to know is that the WPU is now part of the GBPF and there is no other difference other than the name change. Powerlifters who are committed to the sport will now run powerlifting.

As far as the membership goes, you are able to join through this web site or directly through the GBPF . Either way, this will cover you for all WPU and GBPF events including GBPF Insurance.

The fees are £35.00 for a senior lifter and £20.00 for any junior lifters under 23 years old. The Membership will run from January to December as it previously used to. So don’t leave it till the last minute to get it done, as new members will need to be put on the insurance scheme that the GBPF runs. There is also a free club affiliation that you will be able to registrar your Powerlifting Club.

Well for the year ahead we have the British juniors in January and the British bench press in February. Also along with the normal British events there is the commonwealth championships in December in India. So with another full packed year ahead I hope you are training hard and look forward to seeing you all in the new year, if any of you need to contact me about any issues I have mentioned then feel free to email me on phil@welshpowerlifting.com or ring me on 07811104872.
